ENGINEERING / FROM THE SOURCE

A closer look
at the moving parts.

Real excerpts. Practical decisions.

A look at how the studio’s projects handle input, images, and the Windows desktop. Each note pairs a selected source excerpt with the problem it addresses.

NOTE 01 / FORGED

A simulation step with a clear order.

GDScript

The problem

The player simulation resolves attack timing, updates resources and skills, then moves the player and consumes authority intents. Hardware input is gathered separately, so game simulation reads intent rather than polling devices directly.

In context

The current focus is local couch play. Online multiplayer is a later direction; it is not a current public feature. The Windows build also uses WebView2 for its in-game web menus.

func _simulate(delta: float) -> void:
    # Release-point countdown (fixed tick, rule #6): the attack clip is already playing;
    # the strike/launch resolves the tick it crosses the clip's release frame, sampling
    # the muzzle from the NOW-raised weapon pose (cf. the monster casters' windup).
    if _release_t > 0.0:
        _release_t -= delta
        if _release_t <= 0.0:
            _resolve_release()
    if _active_skill_sid != "" and _release_skill == "" and _swing_cd <= 0.0:

NOTE 02 / TRANSPARENTMAKER

First, understand the background.

Python

The problem

This classifier checks for existing alpha, samples an image’s border, tests for a magenta key, then looks for checkerboard luminance patterns. The classification selects the removal path; one global color threshold does not have to handle every image.

In context

The main pipeline uses Pillow, NumPy, and OpenCV. Neural upscaling is optional and needs its additional engine and model weights; it is not required for ordinary background removal.

def detect_background(rgba: np.ndarray) -> str:
    """Classify the background: existing alpha, magenta key, checker, or solid."""
    if (rgba[:, :, 3] < 250).mean() >= 0.05:
        return BG_ALPHA

    ring = _border_ring(rgba)
    rgb = ring[:, :3].astype(np.float32)
    if _magenta_mask_flat(rgb, DEFAULT_KEY_TOLERANCE).mean() >= 0.35:
        return BG_MAGENTA

    spread = rgb.max(axis=1) - rgb.min(axis=1)
    neutral = spread <= CHECKER_NEUTRAL_SPREAD
    # Two well-separated luminance clusters, both substantial -> checker.
    if neutral.mean() >= 0.5 and _checker_luminances(rgba) is not None:
        return BG_CHECKER
    return BG_SOLID

NOTE 03 / TASKBARTOGGLE

Visibility is only half the job.

Python

The problem

Hiding a taskbar does not automatically reclaim its reserved desktop space. This function reads the primary screen dimensions and updates the Windows work area through SystemParametersInfoW. The companion restore path returns the saved working rectangle.

In context

TaskbarToggle integrates with the Windows shell and Win32 window APIs. The taskbar animation on this website is an illustration; the desktop application performs the actual window and work-area changes.

    user32.SystemParametersInfoW(SPI_SETWORKAREA, 0, ctypes.byref(full_rect), 0)
